At Kents Hill Junior School, French is taught from Year 3 through to Year 6 which allows all children to learn a new language.
The lessons are taught through Language Angels which is an award-winning language teaching resource which is designed for primary schools. The scheme provides children with clear and correct pronunciations from a native speaker which is then modelled by teachers. There is a full range of interactive resources that the children thoroughly enjoy!
Children cover a range of subjects from colours, days of the week and animals in Lower School to pets, clothes and family in Upper School. Each unit covers a range of listening and writing skills enabling the children to still consolidate previous learning across all units. Each lesson offers differentiated activities which ensure pupils can rehearse refine and apply their learning throughout each unit.
French is also integrated in to part of the daily school routine. For example we use French labels in all classrooms and pupils respond to the dinner register in French.
Overall the children are developing their French vocabulary and as a school we encourage children to use their knowledge of the language across the whole school day.
