Ready, Respectful and Safe

At Kents Hill Junior School, we are proud of the positive, calm and purposeful environment we create for all children. Our approach to behaviour is rooted in our core values: Ready, Respectful and Safe. These values underpin everything we do and help our pupils to thrive both in school and in life.

We have high expectations for behaviour and conduct, and these are applied consistently and fairly by all staff. Children are explicitly taught these behaviours at the beginning of each half term. This ensures that children understand what is expected of them and feel secure within a clear and supportive structure. As a result, behaviour across the school is positive, and children are able to focus on their learning.

We believe that developing the right attitudes to learning is just as important as academic success. Our pupils are encouraged to:

• take pride in their work and achievements
• show resilience when faced with challenges
• develop independence and effective learning habits

Positive relationships are at the heart of our school community. We foster a culture of mutual respect between pupils and staff, where everyone feels valued, listened to and supported. This strong sense of community helps children feel safe and confident.

We are committed to ensuring that bullying, discrimination or any form of unkind behaviour is not tolerated. Should issues arise, they are dealt with promptly, effectively and sensitively. We support children to understand their actions, make positive choices and repair relationships where needed.

Through our consistent approach and shared values, we create an environment where children feel safe, respected and ready to learn every day.

We are strongly committed to celebrating children’s successes, as well as encouraging them to recognise and celebrate the achievements of others. Our aim is not for children to behave well simply because they are in school, but to develop the self-discipline to make positive choices because it is the right thing to do.
