Special Educational Needs (SEN)
We strongly believe that every child matters and every child belongs at Kents Hill Junior School. We are proud to be a school that grows good people, raises lifelong lovers of learning and where happy minds spark joy and curiosity.
We are committed to making sure all children; including those with additional needs; feel happy, safe and supported so they can enjoy school and achieve their very best.
We know that children learn in different ways and that is something we celebrate. Our curriculum is broad, engaging and accessible to everyone, while nurturing confidence, independence and a love of learning.
Our Approach
Sometimes children need a little extra support, which can be a normal part of development. When this happens, we work closely with families to understand what will help most and put the right support in place together.
We focus on:
- Getting to know each child as an individual
- Spotting needs early and putting support in place
- Adapting teaching so all children can succeed and be the very best that they can be
By doing this, we help children feel confident, included and inspired to keep learning.
Working Together
Understandably, if your child needs extra support, it may feel worrying or unclear. You may be unsure what happens next or what help is available.
You are not alone—we are here to help.
You are the expert on your child and your insight is incredibly important to us. We value your input and keep in regular contact with parents and carers through our ‘Parent & Carer SEND drop-in sessions’. These sessions provide a chance to connect with other families, build a supportive community and take part in personalised workshops led by external specialists. We also offer monthly opportunities for parents and carers to meet with our SEND team on a one to one basis to talk through any questions, concerns or support needed.
We value the important role that parents and carers play in supporting their child. We expect families to work alongside us in a positive and supportive partnership, sharing information and engaging with agreed strategies where possible. By working together in a consistent and understanding way, we can provide the best support for your child and help them to feel confident, secure and successful.
The best outcomes happen when schools and families work together. We will always listen, keep you informed and involve you in decisions about your child.
Our Promise
We want every child to feel:
- Included
- Happy
- Valued
- Supported
- Curious and excited to learn
We know that when children feel happy and secure, their minds are free to explore, discover and thrive.
If you have any questions or would like to talk about your child, please get in touch or speak to a member of our SEND Team —we’re always happy to help.
