Trips and Visits

Trips and residentials are far more than “extras” — they are powerful learning experiences that bring the curriculum to life. They enable pupils to develop independence, resilience, confidence, and strong social skills in ways that extend beyond the classroom. At Kents Hill Junior School, we place great value on providing these opportunities as part of a rich and inclusive education for every child.

Our residential visits in Years 5 and 6 are a key highlight of this provision. The Year 5 residential has a strong focus on science and history, allowing pupils to deepen their understanding through hands-on, immersive experiences. In Year 6, pupils take part in a more adventure-based residential, designed to build confidence, teamwork, and resilience as they prepare for the transition to secondary school.

In addition, we offer a wide range of educational visits and visitors throughout the year. RE trips and experiences play an important role in exposing pupils to different cultures, faiths, and traditions, fostering respect and understanding of the diverse world around them. We also enrich our history curriculum through themed workshops led by professional experts, who bring learning to life through engaging, interactive experiences.

For many pupils, these opportunities provide experiences they may not otherwise access—whether visiting places of historical interest, exploring new environments, or spending time away from home with their peers. These moments create lasting memories and play a vital role in shaping confident, well-rounded individuals.

Here are some things our children said about our school trips and visits!

Teddy in Year 5:

The school trips are extraordinary and so fun! I loved the Year 5 residential to Winchester Space and Science Museum because it had so many interactive exhibitions there!

Ronnie in Year 4:

Our Egyptian workshop was really creative and fun. We were able to act out Julius Caesar’s life, it was really interesting and funny. The man showed us photos from Egypt years ago, as well as bringing in a mummy for us to look at!

Vinnie in Year 4:

I enjoyed our Egyptian workshop, as we were able to dress up. I was a pharaoh! I enjoyed playing the Egyptian board game, it was similar to snakes and ladders and really fun.

Summer in Year 6:

In my time at Kents Hill, I have loved all of the school trips and workshops we have done. My favourite was the (Y5) residential because of the fun activities we all did together and I was in a cabin with all of my friends; it was like we were living together!
