Week beginning: 07.02.2022
In maths this week, we have been continuing to practise our skills of correctly ordering fractions within a sequence, comparing and ordering fractions less than one and comparing and ordering fractions greater than one. We had to be careful to convert fractions so that they have the same denominator to allow us to compare them.
After completing our sentence stacking lessons last week, we have been writing our persuasive letters to persuade someone to become an astronaut. We used all our knowledge of space and astronauts to conduct a persuasive letter using a variety of features, such as flattery, exaggeration, rhetorical questions, subordinating conjunctions, emotive language, and alliteration.
Our reading lessons have been based on notable individuals throughout history! We have been reading about Helen Sharman (the first British astronaut to travel into Space), Lilian Bader (one of the first Black Women to join the Royal Air Force) and Mae Jemison (the first African American woman to travel into space).
Using our computing knowledge, we have been creating a fact file about the Mars Rovers or the Pluto New Horizons Misson. After conducting research on one of these topics, we have been creating Google Slides to present our information in an appropriate and engaging way for our audience and then challenging ourselves to convert our slides into a video.
As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, we watched an assembly of different people talking about the importance of looking after yourself and others and to take care of your mental health. To celebrate the people that support us and make us happy, we created our own support balloons to recognise those that help us and support our mental health!
Using our knowledge of the science of space, we have created beautiful double page spreads to show everything that we have learned about space so far! Here are some examples:
