Year 3 Blog
Week beginning: 12.09.2022
It was lovely to meet so many of our Year 3 families at our Meet the Teacher evening on Wednesday. Thank you for coming.
We completed our first piece of independent writing in English this week. Our task was to write a setting description of the rainforest thinking carefully about the techniques we could include to make our writing interesting. We have been working on including expanded noun phrases, use of the 5 senses, alliteration, similes and prepositional phrases. Here are some of our pieces of writing:
In maths, we have been learning about the value of 100 and using number lines to order numbers.
In PE, 3RE have been creating a dance sequence based on the topic of machines. They have been using controlled, sharp movements and working with a partner to show pushing, pulling and spinning motions through the means of dance. 3CC and 3LJ have been working on the fundamentals of exercise and observing the effects it has on their bodies after completing different activities.
In Science, we began our new topic about plants and learned a little more about the parts of a plant.

Wow! Year 3 have had a phenomenal week settling into life at Kents Hill Junior School. On Monday, we had our Explorers topic hook day where children took part in a variety of exciting activities to learn more about our autumn term topic. We took part in a scavenger hunt around the school grounds to find clues and created an explorer based on the objects we found.
The children have also completed some beautiful collective art explorer collages that will be put on display for us all to admire.
In maths, we have been learning about the different ways in which we can partition numbers and have been making sure we are becoming even more fluent and accurate with our times table recall.
In PSHE, we began our new topic 'Being Me in My World' and learned a little more about each other's lives. We discussed what similarities and differences there were between our lives and celebrated our differences.
Check back next week to see what we get up to in Week Two!
