Week beginning: 28.02.2022
Continuing our learning of fractions, this week we have been practising the skills of adding fractions including adding mixed numbers. We have been using previously learnt skills of converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and converting fractions so that they have the same denominators.
To support our writing, we have continued generating sentences that can be used within our writing to discuss piece about whether robots should be sent to space instead of humans. We have been focussing on using quotes with speech punctuation, brackets for relative clauses, rhetorical questions, a colon to introduce a list, alliteration, metaphors and a concluding phrase.
We have been completing our designs of space art inspired by the artist Peter Thorpe. To ensure that our art was in the style of abstract realism, we used coloured pencils to add an abstract style to our designs by choosing abnormal colours for a space themed piece. We practised using shading and applying different amounts of pressure to our pencil to add a light and shadowed effect to our designs, this shows the direction of light.
Throughout the week, we have been lucky enough to complete a variety of activities for World Book Day! We had the amazing opportunity to watch LIVE videos of authors and illustrators discussing their books, watching a short performance from Matilda the musical, a BBC lesson that inspired us to create a review of our favourite book and finally designing our own characters that have human characteristics which were inspired by Frank Cottrell-Boyce and Steven Lenton (the author and the illustrator of our class text Cosmic!). We had so much fun talking about our favourite books, favourite characters and dressing up for the day! Well done to all of you for dressing up and being so wonderful when taking part in all the activities and a big shout out to Daniel for winning our 'Best Dressed' in Year 5!
