Week beginning: 13.06.2022
This week in Year 4, we have been scientists and learning so much more about topic ‘Animals including humans’ including about the digestive system and human teeth. Excitingly, we got to conduct several experiments this week! First, we all took part in an experiment to show a real-life example of a digestive system; we crushed up biscuits, orange juice and water in a bag that represented food going into the stomach. Then we poured the mixture into tights, which represented the small intestines, and squeezed out all of the nutrients. We worked our way through the full digestive system which helped us gain a real understanding of the process – and then we represented this learning in our science books.
We also learnt about human teeth and the importance of dental hygiene. We learnt about the problems plaque can cause to the health of our teeth and discussed how we can avoid it. We took part in an experiment to show how difficult it is to brush off hard plaque - we brushed boiled eggs that had been sat in Coke Cola for three whole days. Some of us managed to get the eggs back to a perfect white... it took a while though!
In addition to our science lessons, we have finished our persuasive writing where we are persuading our audience to try our delicious Indian curry. We included lots of persuasive features including rhetorical questions, direct speech quotes from reviewers and similes.
