Week beginning: 21.02.2022
To continue our learning of fractions, we have been practising how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator, add fractions with different denominators and converting fractions to have the same denominator and adding three fractions.
We have been discussing the arguments of whether robots should be sent to space instead of humans and completing research to find reasons to either agree or disagree with the argument. Using this research, we have been sentence stacking to create sentences that include time adverbials, frequency adverbs, powerful adjectives, relative clauses and formal language. We will later be able to use these sentences to support our piece of discussion writing based on our question.
To start off our new topic of 'Healthy Me' for PSHE, we discussed the effects that smoking has on our bodies. We learned about the chemicals that are found within cigarettes and e-cigarettes/vapes and the damages that it can cause to our bodies. We were shocked by some of the facts that we learnt about how many people contract illnesses from smoking, how many people sadly die from smoking and that on average more girls smoke than boys!
Our new topic of science this half term is based on forces. We began our topic by learning about the force of gravity! We listened to two very influential scientists that explained their theories of gravity: Isaac Newton and Galileo Galilei. To test the strength of gravity, we conducted an experiment using 6 different objects and measuring their weight/mass with a Newton Meter.
Whilst learning about rocket launch sites, we discussed and described the affects that the physical features have on human activities within a location. We recognised different altitudes represented on a map, identified patterns in the position of launch sites around the globe and recognised the desirable features of a rocket launch site.
